Rocking Chairs and Swings
Life’s calm, quiet ebb and flow
Rests balanced in a steady hand
As purposeful as the force
That transforms a global band.
Perfumed bud and gnarled limb,
Generations and seasons hand in glove,
Seismic shifts and climate change,
People meet and fall in love.
Kingdoms are crushed by their own iron fists;
Farmers droop impotent
at the mercy of weather
Yet tables are spread with our daily bread
By sovereign hands
sustaining extremes together.
Gaze at the starry hosts; “Go to the ant”;
Be bewildered by astro engineering
and dragonfly wings.
Hold on to and be held by God in the flesh
Who inhabits rocking chairs,
and scary, swooping swings.
